It is believed that vampires have an aversion to garlic.

People placed garlic in the mouths of corpses that are likely to become a vampire after death. They also hung garlic in windows and on door seals to prevent vampires from entering a home. Some communities would rub cattle with garlic to prevent vampires from feeding off them.

Garlic has been seen in Mexican, South American, and Chinese vampire lore, but it has been more of a preventative measure to keep corpses in the coffin.

In fiction, garlic has made itself more of a crucial element for killing vampires.
